Emotions are not easily contained - we often pushed them down, control & deny them

Society, teachers, parents have taught us not to cry, be strong, dust ourselves off and move on.
'This is not always easy to do in times of stress, relationship breakup, loss and tragedy / trauma..'

The Way I Work: Emotionally Focused Therapy for:
- Children, Individuals, Couples and Families

Awareness of emotion is central to healthy functioning. Emotional Focused Therapy brings the unconscious to a conscious.

Working with our emotions deepens our understanding and awareness of our personal power. Through the understanding of the present, the relationship between therapist and the individual can develop a deeper understanding of the past and its impact on the present.

We all have an inherent tendency to grow and develop and generally have healthy needs and desires. Problems occur when these needs and desires are constricted, disowned or denied. Emotions move us and inform us, and when they are integrated with reason, they make us wiser than we are when we use our intellects alone.

The ability to be aware of feelings, regulate anxiety, and self - soothe are the crucial skills of life.

Working with emotions can facilitate:

'Counselling - a personal and rewarding journey of connecting the head and heart'

We are our ‘Tree of Life’ by which we live: Likening ‘The tree’ of our life, we have many unknown parts, twists and turns, knots and crevices that mark our experiences, some joyful / some painful. Our leaves are the many changes of seasons loss and new growth – ever changing process weathering life’s many resilient changeable aspects of ourselves.

Tree of Life
  1. Branches, shelter us- beliefs and values,
  2. Leaves, ever changing, colourful-drop and renew as we process and grieve
  3. Fresh re-growth occurs as we accept, adjust & re-invest,
  4. Roots, our origins – where we come from,
  5. Trunk, our core / generational heritage. Foundational origins that contributed to our beliefs, values and principles by which we live.  To know where we come from/ what shapes us – begins the journey of ‘who we really are’….

As we begin to therapeutically work – we come to know, accept new awareness, deep truth, wisdom and understanding. Our relationships with ‘self’ and others improve and growth occurs naturally.

Healing begins with making contact, talking freely,
a genuine feeling of being heard & understood.”
